G. Peyton Maynard & Associates

Peyton began his career working with Lockhart Follin-Mace in what was once known as the Governor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities.  The 70’s and 80’s  was a period of change and reform within the world of disability services and there was intense focus and challenge aimed at improving conditions in all areas of disability.

It was exciting and challenging to be part of the change and to contribute in a meaningful way.The most significant pieces of federal legislation were the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.  The ADA consolidated various pieces of legislation into one, and established far reaching rights for disabled people in education, housing, employment, telecommunications, and services provided by government funded agencies.  This legislation was long overdue.

Peyton was privileged to work as part of several teams working to bring these reforms to the state of North Carolina- both by enabling legislation and by working with state agencies to bring awareness and change to the ground.

These years, which involved crafting legislation and moving it to fruition established a manner of working with people and agencies as well as the state legislature that created a blueprint for future work engagement:  Persistence, Diplomacy, Reason, Clear Communication, Literacy, Respect.

This work was so interesting that Peyton left state government to strike out on his own. Beginning with just one client, he soon developed a group of clients centered around health, disability services, and medicine.

Eight years ago Joel Maynard joined the firm. Joel is a graduate of Wake Forest University with a major in Politics and has earned a master’s degree in Political Communications from NC State University. Joel’s expertise in communication and his high likeability make him a great addition to this family firm.

G. Peyton Maynard

Peyton's thirty-five years of experience in governmental affairs consulting has resulted in a nearly unparalleled knowledge of legislative process and history.  He has developed a keen sense of how to work effectively on both sides of the aisle, which gives him the ability to accomplish the job even in fraught political climates.   He steers clear of events and activities which would hamper his ability to engage on issues with an even hand.  This is rare.  Underlying this attitude and approach is the deepest commitment to the state of North Carolina and the health and well-being of her people.  His low-key approach has brought great success to his clients.
